The Bucket · script submissions

Every film starts
in the Bucket.

The Bucket is where scripts wait to be picked. Yours stays in for future terms unless you opt out, so one submission can become a film two terms later.

01

Submit

Anyone can submit, member or not, as many scripts as you like. Remove your name from the file: selection is blind.

Coverage

Officers and department leads read every script and send written notes back through Backlot.

02

03

Pitch

When submissions close, members volunteer to direct and pitch a script to the producers. If the pitch for yours wins, it’s greenlit.

Revisions

Directors ask you first. You can write the changes or let leadership adjust. Big VFX or set builds may get scaled to what a club can shoot.

04

What you can submit for

Four kinds
of film.

Mini

5–10 minutes

Shot over one weekend. The one production type where the writer can direct their own script.

Term-long

15–25 minutes

2–3 weekends across the ten-week term. Writers stay involved but don’t direct.

Documentary

One or two terms

You submit a pitch deck instead of a script.

Other

Anything else

Animation, two-term projects, experiments. The Bucket exists to widen what the club considers.
